Engine manufacturer Everllence has finalised a contract with an undisclosed Turkish shipyard to supply 16 high-speed generator sets. The equipment will be fitted to four new offshore terminal tugs currently under construction, marking a significant order for the company's high-speed engine division.
The vessels, designed by Robert Allen and built to the Rampage 6000-DE class, will be operated by marine services firm Smit Lamnalco in Guyana's Stabroek Block. Their principal task will be supporting the fleet of floating production, storage and offloading vessels engaged in deepwater oil extraction in the region. The tugs will handle towing duties, dynamic positioning work and safety logistics around the FPSO installations, functions that demand consistent power output under variable operating conditions.
Each of the four vessels will carry a mixed engine configuration. Two 12-cylinder 175D engines, rated at 2,280 kW, will be paired with two 16-cylinder variants of the same engine family, rated at 2,560 kW. This diesel-electric arrangement was chosen to give operators flexibility across different power modes, from low-load standby to full towing capacity, while allowing common spare parts to be shared across the engine types on board. Shipyards and operators have increasingly favoured such configurations for offshore support vessels, where duty cycles vary considerably between transit, station-keeping and heavy towing.
The 175D engines meet current exhaust emission regulations and are compatible with biofuels including FAME and HVO, allowing operators to reduce their reliance on conventional marine diesel without engine modification. Everllence has also pointed to the design's extended intervals between overhauls as a factor in the vessels' long-term running costs. Fuel consumption and maintenance frequency remain central concerns for operators working in remote offshore environments such as the Stabroek Block, where logistical support is limited and downtime carries a high cost.
Jamie Stewart, Group Tender Manager at Smit Lamnalco, said the mixed-engine configuration offered a competitive balance between commercial cost and operational reliability. He noted that the arrangement gives the fleet flexibility to match power output to the specific demands of each job, whether that involves sustained towing or shorter positioning tasks around the FPSO units.
Ruben Fernandez, Head of High-Speed at Everllence, described the contract as confirmation of the 175D engine's suitability for offshore support work. He said the order reflected growing confidence among operators in the platform's ability to perform reliably in demanding deepwater environments, and suggested it could support further orders from the sector as offshore production activity in Guyana continues to expand.
Guyana's Stabroek Block has become one of the most closely watched deepwater developments in the industry over the past several years, with a growing number of FPSO vessels now in operation offshore. The expansion has generated corresponding demand for support vessels capable of servicing that fleet, a demand this order is intended to help meet.
Under the agreed timeline, the engines for the first vessel are due for delivery by the end of 2026. The remaining three sets will follow over the course of 2027, according to the schedule set out in the contract. The staggered delivery is intended to align with the shipyard's construction programme, allowing each vessel to be commissioned and prepared for operation as its engines arrive.
For Everllence, the deal represents a further foothold in the offshore support vessel segment, an area where competition among engine suppliers has intensified as operators seek machinery that can meet both emissions requirements and the practical demands of continuous offshore duty. Smit Lamnalco's decision to commit to the 175D platform across its new fleet suggests the configuration has met the operational criteria the company set out during procurement, though its performance in service will only become clear once the vessels begin working in the Stabroek Block.
