ANSA McAL Limited has appointed Troy Cadogan as Country Head for Guyana and Suriname, with effect from 1 October. The post is new. Mr Cadogan will serve as the group's senior representative in both territories and will report to the Group Chief Operating Officer, according to a press release issued by the company.
The role covers strategic leadership and the coordination of the group's operations in Guyana and Suriname. In Guyana, Mr Cadogan will also oversee stakeholder engagement, corporate reputation, government relations and business development. The company said he will work with government agencies, regulators, business leaders and community partners, and will pursue initiatives that it says contribute to national development.
Anthony N. Sabga III, the group's Chief Executive Officer, gave the company's reasons for the appointment. He said the group's investments and footprint are expanding, and that dedicated leadership on the ground is needed to improve collaboration between its businesses and to build relationships with stakeholders. "Guyana remains a market of tremendous opportunity," he said. Mr Sabga added that the appointment reflects the weight Guyana carries within the group's regional portfolio and the company's confidence in Mr Cadogan.
Mr Cadogan has worked for the ANSA McAL Group for more than 25 years. His most recent position was Head of External Affairs for Guyana, and he also led ANSA McAL Distribution Inc. (AMDI) as Managing Director. The company said he has built relationships across the public and private sectors in Guyana during his career. The press release describes him as a respected business leader with a proven record, but those assessments come from his employer and have not been independently verified.
Responding to the news, Mr Cadogan said he was honoured to take on the role and described the present period as an exciting one for Guyana and for the group. He said he intends to work with the group's businesses, employees, partners, customers and other stakeholders to strengthen relationships and create opportunities.
The group operates in Guyana through several companies and initiatives, which it presents under a platform called "Growing with Guyana". The company says the platform reflects its commitment to economic progress, community development and long-term value creation. In its release, ANSA McAL characterised the region as one of the fastest-growing economic areas in the Caribbean and spoke of a remarkable economic transformation in Guyana. Both descriptions are the company's own.
Several details were not included in the announcement. The company did not say who will now lead AMDI or take over the external affairs function that Mr Cadogan held until this month. It gave no figures on the size of its operations in Guyana, and it did not list the sectors in which its companies work. Its presence in Suriname was not described, and no investment amounts or planned projects were named. The release also did not set out the group's headquarters or ownership structure, which may be unfamiliar to some readers. The source material refers to the position both as Country Head and as Country Manager, and the company has not said which title is correct.
The appointment took effect on 1 October. In the release, the company's board, executive leadership team and employees congratulated Mr Cadogan and said they look forward to his leadership as the group continues to invest in Guyana.
